About the Rudolf-Diesel-Medal
Even the nomination process for the Rudolf-Diesel-Medal works differently from other awards: Just as you don't have to pay anything to enter, you can't apply for it either. Instead, you are nominated by a committee - the' technical-scientific advisory board - and elected by a jury, which in turn corresponds to the who's who of German engineering. And all this without any fees, because the "Deutsches Institut für Erfindungswesen e.V." is a non-profit association behind it. Since 1953, the Rudolf Diesel Medal, Europe's oldest innovation prize, has been awarded to economically successful, entrepreneurial innovation achievements in memory of the innovator Rudolf Diesel.
Entrepreneurs and companies are honored who have demonstrated their inventive spirit on the one hand and their ability to successfully implement ideas in an entrepreneurial manner on the other. The German Institute for Invention (Deutsches Institut für Erfindungswesen e.V.) has been the sponsor of the award since 1982. The award winners are selected by the Rudolf Diesel Board of Trustees, which is made up of over fifty technology directors from world market-leading, medium-sized technology companies, representing a good half million jobs, 125 billion euros in sales and a global presence of products and services.
