Signage system
Wilo SE, Dortmund
The goal was to develop a comprehensive and intuitive orientation system that could be used not only for the new Wilo headquarters in Dortmund, Germany, but also for the other locations worldwide. The special feature was that the orientation system had to be visibile in a wide variety of architectures without being too obtrusive.
As a solution, a system was developed that uses a black cube as its basic shape. The cube can be varied in size or combined according to a fixed grid and its shape can be seen to different degrees depending on the situation. As a situation, a distinction is made between a path marker and a target marker. Path markings require a long-distance effect and use the cube as a whole in order to achieve the greatest possible attention with the help of all cube sides.
Several cubes can be stacked on top of each other to form a pylon. Target markings only show sections of the cube and can usually only be experienced up close. For optimal legibility, a white font is used that creates maximum contrast on the black base surface.
